🏥 The Hospital Environment

  1. The big Hospital has many floors. On this floor, the main Ward is quiet now. A Nurse walks to the small Patient room to see her Patient. At the Nurses’ station, she looks at the chart. Every Doctor and Nurse here is very Responsible for their work, trying to give good Quality care to everyone.
  2. The Nurses’ lounge is a small room where staff can rest. In the next area, the Physicians’ area, a Doctor is talking on the phone. They have a short Meeting room talk about a new rule. A long Hallway connects all the rooms. A Visitor must follow the rules when they come to see a sick person.
  3. The Clean supply room holds new items like white Blankets. Everything here is Disposable or very clean. Used things go to the Soiled utility room to be safe. A sign shows where the Visitors’ toilet is. The staff always Monitor the room to keep the floor clean and tidy.

🌡️ Checking Vital Signs

  1. The Nurse needs to Take temperature now. She uses a modern Digital thermometer. This Electronic tool is fast. She tells the Patient to Lie still for a moment. This reading tells the team about the patient’s Temperature and if there is a Symptom of fever. It is important for the Doctor to know this.
  2. Sometimes, they use an Oral thermometer. The Nurse asks the Patient to Put it under their Tongue and Hold it. For children, a Tympanic thermometer for the ear is sometimes better. The Temperature chart on the wall shows the readings from the morning. This helps to Monitor the patient’s health.
  3. The Doctor worries the patient might have Hypothermia; the Temperature is too low. The Nurse must act fast. She gets a warm Blanket to Wrap the patient well. She must Treat this problem quickly. The patient may start to Shiver, which is a clear Symptom. They work together to Assist the patient.

💊 Care and Communication

  1. A Patient uses the Call light to call for the Nurse. They feel much Pain. The Nurse comes quickly to give the Pain medication the Doctor ordered. This is the Treatment plan. The Nurse is careful and responsible. She must Recognise the level of pain and help the patient feel better.
  2. The Nurse asks the Patient to Change their position. She makes a Polite request: “Please Breathe in slowly.” A Visitor sits by the bed, ready to Assist the Patient with small things. The hospital staff must always be kind and helpful. The Doctor gives good Advice on how to move.
  3. If there is an Emergency, everyone must know their job. The Doctor needs to know the patient’s full Condition fast. The Nurse may need to Take off the patient’s shirt to check their Arm or Head. This fast Treatment is for safety. The staff must Recognise the need for urgent help and act immediately.

🗣️ Language Focus

  1. The Doctor writes a complex word on the board in the Meeting room. He asks the Nurse to say the word again, focusing on the Pronunciation. They Underline the important part—the Stressed syllable. Good communication is a Quality of good care. Everyone must Repeat the word clearly.
  2. A class is held in the Conference room about good communication. They talk about how to make a clear, Polite request to a Visitor. They learn to say each Syllable clearly. The teacher asks them to Tick the right box on their papers. The team must Assist each other in learning these skills.
  3. The Doctor explains the use of the Digital thermometer to a new Nurse. He tells her to look for a Symptom and then Take temperature. The training helps her Recognise the steps. She must be Responsible for adding the correct reading to the Temperature chart. She must Repeat the instructions to show she understands.
