I’ve had stomach pain for two days. At first, it was a dull pain, but now it’s sharper. I’m feeling stressed because of family and work. My friends think it could be an ulcer. Is it serious?

Dear Painful in PA,

Always pay attention to pain that doesn’t go away. It could be an ulcer. Pain between your heart and stomach might mean a problem with your esophagus. Pain lower in your belly could mean appendicitis. The appendix is between the small intestine and large intestine. It can get inflamed and cause problems. It’s part of the digestive system, but we don’t really need it, so it can be removed without issues.

Your doctor might suggest a colonoscopy. This will check your colon and intestines to make sure nothing is wrong.
